New Sales Hub for Blood Coagulation Inhibitor "Novo-Heparin Injection 1000" and Heparin Antagonist "Novo-Protamin Sulfate"

Aventis Pharma Ltd.
Mochida Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd.

(Tokyo, August 28, 2003) - Aventis Pharma Ltd. (Head office: Minato-ku, Tokyo; President: James Mitchum), and Mochida Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. (Head office: Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo; President: Naoyuki Mochida) have decided to transfer the current import and sales of the blood coagulation inhibitor Novo-Heparin Injection 1000 and the heparin antagonist Novo-Protamin Sulfate from Aventis Pharma to Mochida Pharmaceutical, beginning September 1st, 2003.

Until now, Aventis Pharma has imported and sold the Novo-Heparin Injection 1000 and Novo-Protamin Sulfate, manufactured by Leo Pharmaceutical Products Ltd. in Denmark and supplied by Novo Nordisk A/S, also in Denmark. The switch in sales companies of these drugs is based on a strategic agreement encompassing the sales tactics of Novo Nordisk, business policies of Aventis geared toward concentrating resources on global-strategic products, and Mochida's strategy toward introducing new products to reinforce their product lineup in emergency medicine, one of their core fields.

This change of sales distributorship is certain to strengthen the dissemination of information about the drugs, and will further contribute to meeting the demands of medical institutions and patients.

Novo-Heparin Injection 1000 is used primarily for the treatment of disseminated intravascular coagulation syndrome, as an anticoagulant suitable for use with extracorporeal hemodialysis instruments and/or during blood transfusions, and for the treatment and prevention of thromboembolism. Novo-Protamin Sulfate is generally used for neutralizing the effects of heparin - for example, in case of heparin overdose.

The import entitlement for these products is currently owned by Aventis Pharma, and will be transferred to Mochida Pharmaceutical in the near future.
