(Tokyo, April 23, 2003) Mochida Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. announced today that on April 30 it will launch the M2922 (more popularly known as the FM-2), a light and compact antepartum fetal monitoring device for obstetric and gynecological use.
A fetal heart monitor that records the pulse of the unborn baby and the uterine activity of the expectant mother is indispensable for safe delivery. Mochida Pharmaceutical has been importing fetal heart monitors from Philips Medical Systems for sale in Japan since 1992. The difference between the FM-2, scheduled for release next week, and existing devices, is the absence of the recorder. This makes the monitor more compact and lighter than previously possible. Furthermore, operation by a rechargeable battery allows for monitoring in emergencies and while in transit. The monitor is manufactured by Philips Medical Systems (USA) and imported through Philips Medical Systems Japan. An annual sales target of 100 units has been set for the monitor.
Mochida Pharmaceutical markets a wide range of medical devices and equipment aimed at the obstetric and gynecological sector, including the Sonovista series of ultrasonic diagnostic equipment. The addition of the FM-2 to Mochida's "50" series of available antepartum monitoring devices is expected to result in an extension of their use to embrace all the situations encountered during childbirth.
