Sales Tie-up on Suprecur® and Suprecur® MP1.8, GnRH Analogue

(Tokyo, May 20, 2002) Aventis Pharma Ltd. (Head Office: Minato-ku, Tokyo; President: Peter Loescher) and Mochida Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. (Head Office: Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo; President: Naoyuki Mochida) have reached a basic agreement to conclude a distribution & co-promotion agreement for Suprecur® (generic name: buserelin acetate) and Suprecur®MP1.8 (generic name: buserelin acetate sustained release product).
According to the agreement, Suprecur® and Suprecur® MP1.8 will be sold through the distribution channel of Mochida Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd as from June 3, 2002 and promotion activities to medical institutions are also going to be carried out mainly by Mochida Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. However, Aventis Pharma Ltd. continues to be an import license holder as before.
Hoechst Japan Ltd. (now merged with Aventis Pharma Ltd.) received approval of Suprecur® in August 1988 as the first GnRH analogue peptides in Japan. The product has been manufactured and distributed for indications of improvement of endometriosis, precocious puberty and shrinkage of uterine leiomyoma and alleviation of symptoms linked with uterine leiomyoma: hypermenorrhea, lower abdominal pain, back pain, anemia. Suprecur® MP1.8 launched in February 1999 has been imported and distributed as a product which improves endometriosis, shrinkage of uterine leiomyoma and alleviation of symptoms linked with uterine leiomyoma: hypermenorrhea, lower abdominal pain, back pain, anemia. This action is realized by the controlled release of GnRH analogue peptides into micro particles (MP), which enables a long lasting suppression of pituitary and gonad function with one subcutaneous injection.
Aventis Pharma Ltd. has been looking for a partner who can jointly maximize the product value so that Aventis Pharma Ltd. can more focus on its core "Global Strategic Brands".On the other hand, Mochida Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. excels with its gynecology business and tries to fill up its product lines. Matching of both companies' business interest and mutual trust are the basis for the conclusion of the agreement.
This agreement will enable Mochida Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. to contribute further to improvement of women's QOL (Quality of Life).
